“I’m glad you sang that song because…”
Those are the amazing words I am privileged to hear after a concert or worship conference. You share your heart. Your deep journey. Your yearnings. Your grief. Your joy. I reflect. My body is tired. My heart is full. This night, together, we were touched and changed – and somehow we grew from mere strangers to friends.
“I’m glad you sang that song because my mother tried to terminate the pregnancy. The abortion did not succeed.” My heart seemed to stop. Stunned as this older woman approaching 80 years conveyed to me her deepest heart. She lived a full life. A good life with one horrible exception: She lived an entire life thinking she was a mistake! Not valued. Not loved, even by God. That song changed her reality from despair to joy. That song brought the warm loving truth, that Father-God loves her and planned for her.
It is stories like these that I am privileged to hear after concerts, worship events or special programs. The stories often are so very private I cannot utter them. How is that you folks trust me with your inner thoughts? I’m privileged to hear them. They are the stories that keep me going and inspire me to do what I do. These stories are what makes what I do a success.
They are also the reason I do not feel the need to plunge for a large record label, enter contests, or thrust myself into a competitive arena. It is the course for some. But see, for many years, I have been succeeding. My dreams are coming true. You are part of that — from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!
The real contest has already been won. Eternal death has been won by Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection. This victorious love-story must be told again and again. I get to do that again and again.
That song if you’re wondering, was originally written for a child in the womb; sadly, whose scared, confused, battered, overwhelmed, jobless mother changed her mind and terminated the pregnancy. I was devastated when I got the letter from this young woman. The young woman was also devastated. It took courage to sing that song at a conference. Then those amazing words came to me: “I’m glad you sang that song because…That song’s title is New Life.
The battle for Life wages intensely. As Christian believers, there is much to be done. So, I will continue singing New Life and all songs God gives me because it’s working.
If you have a story to share regarding any song of mine: “I’m glad you sang that song because… or “I’m glad you recorded that song because… Feel free to share it with me below. I would be encouraged!
